Scuba diving is sensual

‘SCUBA diving is sensual. To breathe underwater is one of the most fascinating and peculiar sensations imaginable. Breathing becomes a rhythmic melody of inhalations and exhalations. The cracks and pops of fish and crustaceans harmonize with the rhythmic chiming of the bubbles as you exhale. Soon, lungs act as bellows, controlling your buoyancy as you achieve weightlessness. And, as in your dreams, you are flying. Combine these otherworldly stimuli and you surrender completely to the sanctuary of the underwater world.’

Jewish Cemetery, Prague

The Jewish Cemetery in Prague is in existence since at least the early 15th Century. In a space no bigger than a soccer pitch there are at least 12,000 tombstones and an estimated 100,000 burials. Within the cemetery there is also a synagogue with the names of the tens of thousands of Czech Jews murdered in the 2nd World War.Jewish Museum Prague

A rock pile ceases to be a rock pile…

A rock pile ceases to be a rock pile the moment a single man contemplates it, bearing within him the image of a cathedral.

“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

Courage and Cowardice

The opposite for courage is not cowardice, it is conformity. Even a dead fish can go with the flow.

Overheard at a Dive Site

‘Heard there was a lumpsucker at St. John’s Point’

‘Great, am due a visit to Donegal…to terrorise lumpsuckers’

‘Can you eat them?’

‘Lumpsucker curry? Think not…I wouldn’t be inclined’

‘Ok. Just wondering about battered lumpsucker and chips.’

‘Battered lumpsucker? Reminds me of a name I was once called’

‘Are you sure they didn’t say ‘let’s batter the lumpsucker?”
